A very finely figured early Biedermeier wine cooler of substantial size, the matching flame timbers of exceptional quality, the lower section with a very finely carved border stylised anthemion leaves standing on a block plinth with flat square feet.
Wine-coolers and Cellarettes were widely used from the 18th century & throughout the 19th century for chilling wine. They tend to be wooden, often mahogany or oak strengthened with brass bands to the outer edge, and lead-lined with a bung to release melted ice.
