Chippendale Period Wine Cooler
A large Chippendale period wine cooler, on four substantial square supports. The interior with sections led lined for bottles. Probably replaced about 100 years ago. The top beautifully patinated of sun burst octagonal section.
Wine-coolers and Cellarettes were widely used from the 18th century & throughout the 19th century for chilling wine. They tend to be wooden, often mahogany or oak strengthened with brass bands to the outer edge, and lead-lined with a bung to release melted ice.
